REBUILDING TOGETHER LEADS ACTE VOLUNTEERS IN REBUILDING THE HOMES OF NEW ORLEANS RESIDENTS AND RASING FUNDS WITH ART

WHO: Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and Rebuilding Together New Orleans

WHEN & WHERE:  Volunteer project on April 9 - 12, 2008 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at 1829 Dumaine Street, 2030 LaHarpe Street and 2801 Marais Street.

Silent auction on April 9-12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn Convention Center, New Orleans, 1201 Convention Center Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70112

WHAT:  The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) is holding a regional meeting with teachers from 6 states including Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. Volunteers from the association as well as students from Delgado Community College’s chapter of Delta Epsilon Chi are working to renovate the homes of Katrina evacuees, under the supervision of Rebuilding Together New Orleans.

ACTE Region IV commissioned artist Karen Stevers, from Dearborn, Michigan, to create a painting to be used as a silent action item as well as the art to be used in creating posters for sale. Signed and numbered posters will be available for purchase at the convention, through the national ACTE bookstore, and the Preservation Resource Center. The artist, DaimlerChrysler, and HelmsBriscoe have made donations to this cause and 100% of the proceeds will go to Rebuilding Together New Orleans.

Rebuilding Together New Orleans, a program of the Preservation Resource Center, restores and revitalizes the homes of low-income elderly and disabled families, with all work done at no cost to the homeowner and utilizing mostly volunteer labor.

Additional funds to support the organization's rebuilding efforts will be generated at a Gala Silent Auction to be held at the Hampton Inn Convention Center on Thursday, April 10, 2008, with items donated from regional artists, hotels and restaurants.
