ACTE Announces Arizona Retired Deputy Associate Superintendent and CTE State Director as National Award Finalist

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Today, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced Jeanne Roberts, retired Deputy Associate Superintendent and CTE State Director, Arizona Department of Education in Phoenix, Arizona, as the recipient of the 2018 ACTE Region V Lifetime Achievement Award. This award recognizes CTE professionals for their leadership on behalf of ACTE, their innovations in CTE and their contributions to the field over an extended period of time.At the Arizona Department of Education (ADE), Jeanne Roberts has worked with ACTE Arizona (ACTEAz) in planning, facilitating and presenting professional development activities to teachers and administrators throughout the state. As deputy associate superintendent/CTE state director, she served as ADE liaison to the ACTEAz board of directors, co-sponsor of the ACTEAz summer conference, and co-chair of the ACTEAz summer conference planning committee.

Additionally, Roberts supported Perkins grant funding to ACTEAz initiatives including the Premier Series, which created professional development activities to support new teachers/administrators and help them gain standard teaching certifications. Her goal as a leader at ADE has always been “to create equitable opportunities for teachers, students, administrators and counselors across the state so that everyone could experience the benefits of CTE.”

In 2016, she was awarded the Spirit of ACOVA award by the Arizona CTE Administrators Association, as a “person who had embodied the true meaning of ACOVA through furthering the mission of community, advocacy and leadership through Arizona career and technical education.”

Roberts is one of 5 finalists for the 2019 national title. The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Banquet, a dinner and award presentation recognizing the best CTE educators in the country. The event will take place on Wednesday evening, November 28, during ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2018 in San Antonio, TX.
