Promising Programs and Practices
ACTE developed the Promising Programs and Practices Web collection to highlight career and technical education programs in community colleges, high schools and career centers across the country that are providing outstanding education, superior technical skills and innovative opportunities to their students. Instead of trying to find a one-size-fits-all approach, this Web collection is designed to show how a variety of schools and institutions have found creative solutions to their problems and spark ideas that can be adapted to other settings.
The information on the Promising Programs and Practices collection can be searched by state to help find programs that are under the same educational regulations; or by topic, including ACTE Division. New programs will be added continuously, so please send ACTE any ideas for programs and schools you feel deserve to be highlighted on the page. Please include as much information you can about the program, including contact information for the program administrator and the school.
One program that has enjoyed a high level of success is Gateway Technical College's Upgrading the Nation's Automotive Programs. Initiated thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Gateway's program introduced new curricula and tools for helping automotive technology instructors advance their own skills and, therefore, those of their students. Although the initiative itself was ambitious, Gateway not only met each benchmark, but far surpassed them.
