If you would like to write for Techniques, here are a few guidelines to help you get started.

The style for this publication is journalistic. This basically means “write what you need to write.” We are looking for stories, solutions to problems, case studies, and profiles of interesting people within the career and technical education community.

The best way to write most of these stories is to begin with the issue/concern/highlight, move into solution/options/reason, and the close with the results. Most of these articles will run between 1,000 and 2,500 words.

For those who prefer a more academic angle, the magazine has “Research Report,” a perfect place for the academic articles. Techniques magazine is not peer reviewed. Articles for this department must be under 2,500 words.

Check out the editorial calendar for the themes of each issue, as well as the submission deadlines. Even with the themes, you are not required to submit articles that address the themes. ACTE features a variety of stories every issue, so write on the topic of your choice. As a member of ACTE, you already have a pretty good idea of the kind of information career and technical educators find useful. Use that knowledge to write your article.

ACTE prefers to receive articles in Word format. ACTE also likes any graphics (photos, charts, graphs) that might be relevant. Photos should be clear and at least 300 dpi. Articles can be sent electronically to Managing Editor.

Techniques magazine is a publication for and about career and technical education. ACTE encourages you to share your stories. Just think of the pull it will have with your family, students, administrator or tennis partner! We look forward to your submission.
