Zoetis Named 2016 ACTE Business of the Year

ALEXANDRIA, VA - The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and its Board of Directors announce global animal health company Zoetis as the 2016 ACTE Business of the Year. The ACTE Business of the Year award celebrates businesses and organizations that have demonstrated their commitment to career and technical education (CTE) through their partnership and continuous support of CTE professionals.

"Zoetis understands the value of quality CTE in providing a work force able to meet the challenges of the future," says Glenn Sims, Senior Regional Director of the FFA. Zoetis has demonstrated a long-standing and extensive record of support for CTE through both financial and in-kind contributions to student and teacher organizations.

As a platinum-level sponsor of the FFA, Zoetis contributes more than $1 million annually through the Zoetis Industry Support Program.  Through this program, Zoetis customers designate a local FFA chapter to receive a donation in the amount of 1% of their purchases during a 3 month period. Zoetis' direct contributions to local FFA chapters since 2008 totals more than $6.5 million. They also produce and make available free of charge the Veterinarians on Call video series, which features footage of real veterinarians working with clients across the United States. Teachers use these clips in their classrooms to help students better understand what a career as a veterinarian entails and what these professionals do in the course of their work. Zoetis is actively supporting the development of the National FFA My Journey website with the goal of creating a more effective pipeline for FFA members to connect with potential future employers and understand career preparation needs.

Since 2013, Zoetis has been the flagship sponsor for the National Association of Agricultural Educators' (NAAE) Communities of Practice, a networking site for agricultural educators that is designed to help these professionals connect to share ideas and resources. The sophisticated platform, which supports approximately a quarter of all agriculture educators in the U.S., is sustained thanks to Zoetis' contributions. "Zoetis' financial and in-kind support provides thousands of agricultural educators with an avenue to connect and develop their agricultural education programs that is not available to them any other way," says Julie Fritsch, Communications/Marketing Director for NAAE. "For this reason, they are truly champions of career and technical education."

The ACTE Excellence Awards promote excellence in CTE by recognizing individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the community, programs that exemplify the highest standards and organizations that have conducted activities to promote and expand CTE programs. Award winners will be honored for their contributions to CTE at the annual ACTE Awards Banquet during ACTE's CareerTech VISION 2015 in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 19, 2015. CareerTech VISION is ACTE's signature event, with more than 3,000 attendees, career and CTE professionals from across the country and more than 300 workshops and sessions dedicated to improving the knowledge and capacity of CTE leaders.
