ACTE Excellence Awards

Carl Perkins Outstanding Service Award

Purpose
To recognize individuals who have made outstanding meritorious contributions of state or national significance to the improvement, promotion, development, and progress of career and technical education. This award was established in 1985 in honor of the late Rep. Perkins and is designed to recognize individuals who have demonstrated the same humanitarian concerns exemplified by Rep. Perkins.

Eligibility
This award may be presented to individuals whose careers have been marked by actions that have enabled career and technical education programs to respond more fully to the individual needs of people for assistance in achieving more productive lives. Nominees should have made contributions or achieved prominence above salaried position assignments at the local, state, regional and national levels.  

Criteria
Nominations will be assessed on the following criteria: 

  1. actions that have enabled career and technical education programs to respond more fully to the individual needs of people for assistance in achieving more productive lives
  2. meritorious contributions of state or national significance to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of career and technical education
  3. publications
  4. significant contributions to the field of career and technical education

(Note: those who have recognition outside their field of work and those who have made contributions of national significance will be most highly rated.)

Nomination Procedure
All nominations must come from ACTE members, but the nominee is not required to be an ACTE member. Each nominee must be endorsed or sponsored by an association, agency, group, several individuals or a combination of these.

Application Requirements
Applications for this award must include the following:

1. Nomination Form 

2. Support information: Please describe the following with regards to the nominee:This award may be presented to individuals whose careers have been marked by actions that               A. actions that have enabled career and technical education programs to respond more fully to the individual needs of people                                                                               B. meritorious contributions of state or national significance to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of CTE                                                                           C. publications                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   D. other significant contributions to the field of career and technical education      

3. Letters of support, limited to a maximum of ten pages. (Suggested endorsers might include political leaders, professional association leaders, business and industrial leaders, educational leaders, civic leaders, parents and students.)  

4. Photo. Should be digital, high resolution (at least 300dpi), and submitted in .jpg format. Files 2MB or larger are preferred. (The photograph will be used for publicity purposes only.)

All applications should be submitted electronically in word format to awards@acteonline.org by May 7, 2013. Awards will be presented to winners at the ACTE Awards Banquet during CareerTech VISION 2013 in Las Vegas.

Changes to the ACTE Excellence Awards

In an effort to make the ACTE Excellence Awards more accessible for our members and more manageable for our state associations, we have made some significant changes to the awards, the applications, and the application process! The highlights of these changes can be found in our "Changes to the ACTE Excellence Awards" flyer. Detailed information on these changes and the transition is outlined below.  These changes go into effect beginning Jan. 1, 2014.

ACTE Business of the Year

Businesses and organizations that have excelled in contributing to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of CTE are eligible recipients of this award. All applicants must be nominated by an ACTE member.
