On Feb. 17, ACTE held our annual CTE Month® school visit in partnership with Cardozo Education Campus and District of Columbia Public Schools. This visit focused on the high school’s TransTech STEM Academy and Academy of Information Technology. Speakers discussed the specific career pathways these academies offer, the certifications that students in these programs often earn, and the role the federal Perkins Act plays in funding these programs and other CTE programs in the District of Columbia.

Following that, Cardozo hosted a panel that included educators, administrators, industry partners, and students. In addition to presenting further information on the specifics of each program, panelists described how their CTE educations had benefited them by providing them not only with technical skills but with employability skills such as dedication, motivation, time management, and flexibility. Attendees then toured aviation, computer science, graphic design and robotics classrooms within these academies.

This event provided valuable information to visitors, including employees of the federal Departments of Education and Labor, Capitol Hill staff, and representatives from several of ACTE’s partnering organizations, about the strong CTE programs at Cardozo Education Campus and the ways in which these programs introduce students to compelling, rapidly changing fields and provide them with skills that will prepare them for 21st century jobs.

ACTE would like to thank Cardozo Education Campus, District of Columbia Public Schools and all other organizations that participated for a great school visit. For additional information, see the event’s agenda and list of panelists. If you are interested in hosting a visit to showcase your CTE programs, check out ACTE’s list of tips on our School Visit and Site Visit Page, or contact Kevin Oshinskie for more information.
