#VISION13 Online Seminar: Marilyn Barger
Monday, October 21, 2013 2:00 PM
ACTE kicks off its #VISION13 online seminar series with a discussion with Marilyn Barger on Best Practices for Integrating Industry Tours Into Career Education for Manufacturing on Monday, Oct. 21 at
2:00 p.m. As we work to close the skills gap in manufacturing, industry
tours can play a central role for engaging students. Well-planned tours
of a manufacturing facility can not only peak students interest, but
also add relevance to their academic studies, expose them to the world
of work and provide context for verbal communication skills.
This presentation will showcase impact highlights of FLATE’s industry
tour program and zero in on how Hillsborough County Public Schools is
partnering with FLATE to maximize student impact by integrating new
recruitment and retention strategies that build on industry and
educational tour experiences. These strategies include linking the field
trips to integrated curriculum and/or add contextual activities before
or after the tours, expanding the industry partners to include their
participation in advisory committees and curriculum content review and
development, adding other mutually beneficial partnership activities and
developing viable and valuable student work experiences.
