Webinar: Dissecting WIA Reauthorization Deal

On May 21, leaders from the House and Senate announced a bipartisan, bicameral deal to reauthorize the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) through 2020. The announced Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is the most significant progress in reauthorization since WIA first came due in 2003. The House and Senate are expected to pass this legislation in the coming weeks.

Given the anticipated fast track of WIOA, experts from four leading workforce organizations held a webinar on June 3 to walk through the legislation for interested stakeholders and to explain what it means for the nation’s workforce system.

Webinar panelists included:

  • Rachel Gragg, Federal Policy Director, National Skills Coalition
  • Neil Ridley, Senior Policy Analyst and Interim Workforce Development Co-Director, Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP)
  • Mala Thakur, Executive Director, National Youth Employment Coalition (NYEC)
  • Jennifer Wang, Policy and Advocacy Manager, Young Invincibles
  • Rachel Zinn, Director, Workforce Data Quality Campaign

ACTE is a WDQC partner and works closely with the other hosting organizations on workforce policy.
