Administration Leadership Changes at Ed & Labor

During remarks at the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium Spring Meeting, Brenda Dann-Messier announced that she will soon be stepping down from her role as the Assistant Secretary for Career, Technical and Adult Education at the U.S. Department of Education. She has served in this role since October 2009, and has always been a willing partner—making numerous appearances at ACTE events during this time. We expect more information to be available soon about who will be serving as the leader of the Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education in the interim and as a future nominee to this position.

In addition, the Department of Labor recently completed the process of replacing another long-time leader, Jane Oates, who resigned last year as the Assistant Secretary of the Employment and Training Administration. Portia Wu, who was previously serving as the special assistant to the president for labor and workforce policy at the White House Domestic Policy Council, was nominated for this position in December. In late February, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee approved her nomination, and she was confirmed by the full Senate on April 2.
