Dual Enrollees Excel in Postsecondary

Following hard on the heels of our recent Data Driven blog post on the benefits of dual enrollment, the National Student Clearinghouse has just published recent data on college completion overall, and for former dual enrollment students, in a new Signature Report.

As the publication notes, in the 2010-2011 school year, high school students enrolled in about 2 million college courses. Approximately 600,000 of these were in CTE fields.

Using a dataset of almost 400,000 former dual enrollment students who started postsecondary education for the first time in fall 2007, researchers found that 66 percent had completed a credential within six years. In comparison, the rest of the fall 2007 cohort (minus the dual enrollees) had a completion rate of 54.2 percent.

In addition, the Education Commission of the States has developed a database of state policies and practices on dual enrollment, including credit earned, access, financing, transferability and CTE-specific elements.
