Policymaker of the Year Nominations Open

The nomination process for the 2013 Policymaker of the Year is now open. Nominations can be made through the ACTE awards portal by ACTE members, state associations or the Board of Directors.

The award is presented annually to national policymakers who have made the most significant impact on national policy related to career and technical education either during the past year or over an extended career of public service.

Submitted nominations must include:

  • a cover letter stating the nominee’s qualifications for the award
  • supporting information related to significant CTE national policy accomplishments or
  • other appropriate accomplishments related to CTE

Individual ACTE members submitting a nomination must have the endorsement of an association, agency, group, several individuals or a combination these.

Award winners will be selected by the ACTE Public Policy Department in conjunction with the Board Directors, and will be presented at the 2014 National Policy Seminar in Washington, DC.

Education Leader George Miller to Retire

Rep. George Miller (D-CA), ranking member on the House Education and the Workforce Committee and winner of ACTE’s Policymaker of the Year Award, announced his retirement on Monday. He will not seek re-election in 2014.

House Passes FY 14 Omnibus Bill With Perkins Increase; Senate to Vote Soon

The FY 2014 omnibus appropriations bill passed overwhelmingly on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday by a vote of 359-67. As we previously reported, the omnibus bill includes a $53 million increase for Perkins! The Senate is expected to vote on the measure before the end of the week. Please take a few minutes to reach out to your Senators and urge them to vote YES on this bill.
