 ACTE 2013 Summer Policy Intern

My name is Robert LaBounty, and I am the summer policy intern for ACTE’s public policy department.  I am originally from California and recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California San Diego with a major in Political Science and an emphasis on American politics.  I came to Washington, DC with the University of California Washington Center program for the summer and will be learning about policy analysis and lobbying.

Over the summer I look forward to learning about the political process and how organizations like ACTE impact legislation from Congress to the President’s desk.  I am excited to attend meetings on Capitol Hill and watch as they discuss education policy relevant to CTE.  I hope to learn about the lobbying that ACTE does for CTE, and personally impact education and workforce policy through my internship.

I enjoy policy analysis, and in the future see myself working on policy issues with an organization focused on environmental policy, nutritional policy, or educational policy. I strongly believe in protecting our environment as well as ensuring our youth are healthy and educated.

I am excited to be working with ACTE, and I look forward to learning about policy which will keep our country moving forward.

Education Leader George Miller to Retire

Rep. George Miller (D-CA), ranking member on the House Education and the Workforce Committee and winner of ACTE’s Policymaker of the Year Award, announced his retirement on Monday. He will not seek re-election in 2014.

House Passes FY 14 Omnibus Bill With Perkins Increase; Senate to Vote Soon

The FY 2014 omnibus appropriations bill passed overwhelmingly on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday by a vote of 359-67. As we previously reported, the omnibus bill includes a $53 million increase for Perkins! The Senate is expected to vote on the measure before the end of the week. Please take a few minutes to reach out to your Senators and urge them to vote YES on this bill.
