Parents See Potential in Postsecondary CTE

Parents See Potential in Postsecondary CTE

A high percentage of U.S. parents expressed confidence in postsecondary CTE to help their children succeed in a recent survey from Inside Higher Ed, conducted by Gallup.

The College Decision-Making Process: A Survey of Parents of 5th- through 12th-Grade Students highlights findings from this research:

  • One-third of parents reported they were very likely to limit the colleges their child applies to because of high tuition and fees
  • About four in 10 parents stated that the reason why their child would enroll in further education beyond high school is to get a good job
  • Three in 10 said they strongly agree that there are ways for their child to get a good job other than by attending college
  • 43 percent strongly agreed that a vocational, professional or technical certificate or degree program could lead their child to a good job, compared to 28 percent who strongly agreed that a liberal arts education could lead their child to a good job.

This is a great sign that parents are starting to get the message that CTE leads to fulfilling, family-sustaining careers!
