Spreading the Message That ''Career and Technical Education Works!'' During CTE Month 2013

It’s February and that means Career and Technical Education(CTE) Month™ is finally here! During the entire month of February, CTE professionals across the country will be raising awareness in their communities about their programs and celebrating the positive impacts of CTE for students, schools, communities and the country’s economic success.

The theme for CTE Month 2013 is Career and Technical Education Works! Throughout the month, CTE professionals in the classroom, local and state CTE departments and national CTSO organizations will be highlighting how CTE works for students, business and industry, local economies and much more. This is a great opportunity to reach out to your local elected officials and advocate for CTE and emphasize the importance of Perkins funding to continue vital programs enabling students to be career-ready. Invite your member of Congress to a CTE Month event, ask them to officially declare February as CTE Month in your state by proclamation, or schedule a visit with your elected officials to inform them on the importance of CTE in your community.

ACTE has a number of resources available for CTE professionals celebrating CTE Month, including resources for advocacy such as a sample press release on CTE Month, a sample CTE Month proclamation and CTE fact sheets to help strengthen your advocacy efforts at home. You can also download student-made video PSAs and print out a calendar of activities for CTE Month on the CTE Month web page

February 11-15, 2013, ACTE will hold Social Media Advocacy Week as part of the CTE Month activities. This is another opportunity to connect with your member of Congress via social media like Twitter or Facebook and make your voice known. We will be sharing CTE Month events and activities from members, as well as examples of strong programs, CTE research and data and much more during the week, so follow all the CTE Month buzz by searching for #CTEMonth or #careerteched on Twitter or by visiting our Facebook page

Most of all, enjoy the month! This is an opportunity to not only showcase the positive impacts of CTE across the country, but also to celebrate the hard work and tireless dedication of CTE professionals who train the next generation of America’s workforce. Happy CTE Month!
