2013 NPS Update: Members' Choice Poll, Last Chance to Vote!

Make your arrangements today to climb the Hill with your ACTE colleagues during this year’s National Policy Seminar!

NPS will be occurring at a critical time when the new 113th Congress will be debating very important funding issues which have implications for CTE. ACTE recently learned that the president’s Fiscal Year 2014 budget request is expected to be released in March. The FY 2013 budget is also expected to be addressed in March when the current continuing resolution expires!

Don’t know what a continuing resolution is? NPS will teach you about important legislative and policy terms and provide the support you need as you prepare to advocate to your federal senators and representative.

Members’ Choice Breakout Session
We need your input on this year’s breakout sessions. Vote below to tell us which topic you’d be most interested in hearing about. While all of these topics will be touched on during general sessions, the winning breakout topic will receive more in-depth attention.

In addition to Perkins reauthorization and federal funding for CTE, which of the issues below are you most interested in learning more about at this year's National Policy Seminar?
Elementary and Secondary Education Act reauthorization
Workforce Investment Act reauthorization
Higher Education Act reauthorization
Common Core State Standards
CTE teacher evaluation

  • Sarah Bolton, Legislative Assistant, Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA)
  • Thomas Showalter, Education Policy Advisor, Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions

House Passes FY 14 Omnibus Bill With Perkins Increase; Senate to Vote Soon

The FY 2014 omnibus appropriations bill passed overwhelmingly on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday by a vote of 359-67. As we previously reported, the omnibus bill includes a $53 million increase for Perkins! The Senate is expected to vote on the measure before the end of the week. Please take a few minutes to reach out to your Senators and urge them to vote YES on this bill.
