Labor Dept. Releases Career Pathways Technical Assistance Resources

By: Catherine

Earlier this month the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration (ETA) released a bundle of resources to aid state, local and tribal entities in developing career pathway systems, as part of the ETA’s Career Pathways Initiative.

The resources can be found at the Career Pathways Communities of Practice and include the following:

  • Career Pathways Graphic Framework: An overview of the ETA’s Career Pathways Initiative six key elements and major steps for achieving each component.
  • Implementing Career Pathways Train-the-Trainer PowerPoint: A tool to help build awareness and buy-in for career pathways systems.
  • Career Pathways Toolkit: A roadmap for administrators, practitioners and policymakers developing career pathways systems at regional, state and local levels.
  • Career Pathways Toolset: A series of tools for assessing readiness, identifying gaps and planning next steps in career pathway development, including a credential asset mapping tool.
  • The Promise of Career Pathways Systems Change and Initiatives Policy Paper: A publication with examples of workforce investment systems committed to career pathways, the investments of resources they have made and the benefits accrued.
  • Career Pathways Webinar Series: Online events on topics such as using real-time labor market information and building cross-agency partnerships.

ETA’s Career Pathways Initiative, which began in June 2010, has provided best practices and opportunities for training and peer-to-peer learning to 11 grantees to create well-articulated and sustainable career pathways systems. In addition, the initiative is making resources such as those listed above available to the broader workforce investment system. A major focus of the initiative is cross-agency partnerships and active industry involvement.
