  • Deadline Extended for States to Apply for Certification Data Exchange Project

    We've extended the deadline to May 24, 2013 for states to apply to the second round of the Certification Data Exchange Project. This activity, supported by ACTE in cooperation with a number of national and state partners, is geared toward expanding and improving data exchange between industry certification organizations and state longitudinal data systems.

  • CTE Credential Holders Out-earn Their Peers

    Last fall I reported to you on associate degree holders in CTE fields out-earning bachelor's degree recipients in Virginia. I've recently learned that Tennessee and Texas have also studied the relative benefits of various credentials and career fields for their postsecondary students, with similar findings.

  • Workforce Investment Act Reauthorization Introduced in House

    Last Friday, February 15, Rep. John Tierney (D-MA) introduced the House Democrat's Workforce Investment Act (WIA) reauthorization bill, H.R. 798. Following the Democratic bill, House Republicans released their version, Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act, on February 21.

  • States Get Reimbursed for 1.5% Perkins Cut

    In October 2011, states saw a 1.5 percent cut in their Perkins allocations. This cut was the result of a continuing resolution bill that applied a temporary across-the-board cut to advance appropriations in order to meet specific budget caps.
