  • President Obama Visits CTE School

    President Barack Obama visited Brooklyn’s Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-Tech) last Friday to tour the school and deliver remarks on the “Next Generation of Middle Class American Workers and Entrepreneurs." His remarks included priorities for preparing all students to be college and career ready, including career education.

    Secretary of Education Arne Duncan toured the new nanotechnology lab at Wheeling High School in Wheeling, IL, before sitting down for a panel on STEM education with Wheeling students and teachers.

  • Kansas Law Leads to 50 Percent Jump in High Schoolers Taking College CTE

    The number of high school students taking CTE courses at community and technical colleges in Kansas increased by about 50 percent in the 2012-2013 school year, the first year of new legislation that places the responsibility for paying for those credits on the state, according to Celia Llopis-Jepsen of CJOnline.com.

  • New NGA Chair Mary Fallin Proposes Education Initiative

    On August 4, 2013, the National Governor’s Association (NGA) appointed Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin as its new Chair. After the announcement, Gov. Fallin introduced her 2013-14 NGA Chair’s Initiative called America Works: Education and Training for Tomorrow’s Jobs.

    On Wednesday the Committee for Economic Development put on an event discussing the recent McKinsey Global Institute’s report, Game Changers: Five Opportunities for US Growth and Renewal. These game changers are proposed to jump start the economy and substantially contribute to gross domestic product (GDP)

  • President Calls for Postsecondary Education, Leaves Out Certifications

    In a rose garden event, President Barack Obama called attention to the doubling of interest rates on student loans set to occur on July 1. President Obama also used the event to advance the message that all students graduating from high schools today will need some form of postsecondary education to succeed in today’s economy. A striking omission in his speech was an acknowledgement that a postsecondary credential includes more than just a degree.
