Last night, a budget agreement was reached by Rep.
Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) to set new federal spending caps,
restore a portion of the sequestration cuts and allow the appropriations
process to move forward under regular order.

Today, President Obama announced a new, $100 million competitive grant opportunity named "Youth CareerConnect." The funds will be awarded from the Department of Labor's revenues from
the H-1B visa program and the grants will also be administered by the Department of Labor.

President Barack Obama visited Brooklyn’s Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-Tech) last Friday to tour the school and deliver remarks on the “Next Generation of Middle Class American Workers and Entrepreneurs." His remarks included priorities for preparing all students to be college and career ready, including career education.

After a 16-day government shutdown, the Senate and House of Representatives agreed on Wednesday night to a short-term deal to raise the debt ceiling and fund the federal government through a continuing resolution (CR), which also included a provision to allow teachers participating in an alternative certification program to be considered “highly qualified” under the Highly Qualified Teachers (HQT) section of the 2001 authorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).

ACTE, along with various other organizations, recently sent
out a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voicing support for the Obama Administration’s new ConnectED initiative.
They expressed concern about the 20 percent of students who graduate late or
drop out entirely and the need to decrease that number in order to keep America
competitive in the global marketplace. The plans would help to expand the
school systems current internet capabilities, bringing student learning into
the digital age.
