  • CTE Accountability to Look Forward to Thanks to ESEA Waivers

    In our final highlight of approved state waivers from provisions in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), I will be looking at two states that currently do not integrate CTE into their accountability system, but that have suggested in their applications that they may in the future.

  • ESEA Waivers Leading to Industry Certifications

    Yesterday we discussed a few state applications for ESEA flexibility that introduced CTE measures into their broader school accountability systems. Today I’d like to introduce states that specifically require districts to report student participation and progress on industry certifications.

  • ESEA Waivers Making Career-ready Progress in Some States

    Recently, the Department of Education approved its 33rd state waiver application for release from key provisions of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. While a majority of those applications were lacking in specific details on CTE accountability, we did find quite a few that made great progress in including “career readiness” in their college- and career-ready goals.

  • Ed and Workforce Committee Passes ESEA Legislation

    On February 28, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce held a markup on the Student Success Act (H.R. 3989) and the Encouraging Innovation and Effective Teachers Act (H.R. 3990). These two pieces of legislation will serve as the basis for the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Both bills were passed by the full committee on a party line vote of 23 to 16.

  • House Ed and Workforce Committee Releases New ESEA Bills

    On January 6, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce released draft legislation to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The two bills released on Friday, the Student Success Act and the Encouraging Innovation and Effective Teachers Act, address reforms to teacher effectiveness and accountability systems in the current law.
