  • Ohio, Virginia Senators Launch Senate CTE Caucus

    In conjunction with the start of CTE Month, ACTE worked with U.S. Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Rob Portman (R-OH) to form the Senate Career and Technical Education Caucus. As co-chairs, the Senators will use the bipartisan Caucus to bring attention in the Senate to improving and strengthening access to high-quality, rigorous CTE to ensure a well-educated and highly skilled workforce.

  • House Passes FY 14 Omnibus Bill With Perkins Increase; Senate to Vote Soon

    The FY 2014 omnibus appropriations bill passed overwhelmingly on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday by a vote of 359-67. As we previously reported, the omnibus bill includes a $53 million increase for Perkins! The Senate is expected to vote on the measure before the end of the week. Please take a few minutes to reach out to your Senators and urge them to vote YES on this bill.

  • Perkins Reauthorization Moves Forward in the House with CTE Caucus Briefing, Committee Hearing and School Visit

    This week, the bipartisan Congressional CTE Caucus held a briefing for congressional staffers to discuss Perkins reauthorization from the perspective of different CTE stakeholders. ACTE has organized a CTE school visit for congressional staff later this month at the Arlington Career Center in Arlington, VA. Additionally, the House Education and the Workforce Committee will hold its second reauthorization hearing on Tuesday, November 19.

  • Caucus Co-chairs Call for CTE Exemption in USDA Nutrition Regulations

    New rules proposed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)—authorized under the Healthy, Hungry-Free Kids Act of 2010—will require all foods sold in schools to meet strict nutritional standards beginning in 2014. Though intended by Congress to target snack foods sold in vending machines, a la carte lines and school stores, these regulations could have a harmful effect on students in CTE culinary programs that operate student-run cafés, bakeries and catering businesses.

  • CTE Caucus Holds First Briefing of 113th Congress

    On Wednesday, May 15, ACTE and the bipartisan Congressional CTE Caucus co-chairs Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-PA) and Rep. James Langevin (D-RI) held a briefing for congressional staff title “CTE 101: The Nuts and Bolts of Establishing a Qualified Workforce.

  • Reps. Thompson and Langevin Recognize CTE Month on House Floor

    This week, Reps. Glenn Thompson (R-PA) and Jim Langevin (D-RI), the co-chairs of the Congressional CTE Caucus, took to the floor of the House of Representatives in recognition of CTE Month.  The co-chairs spoke of the importance of CTE and its roll in American competitiveness. They also urged their colleagues to join the bipartisan caucus to support and promote CTE in Congress.
