  • Department Announces ESEA Waiver Renewal

    The U.S. Department of Education announced today that states who have received a waiver from requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) may submit a renewal application to extend their waiver through 2016. Currently, waivers issued during the 2012-13 school year are set to expire at the end of this school year.

  • ACTE Releases Higher Ed Priorities

    ACTE released its reauthorization priorities for the Higher Education Act (HEA) to ensure consideration of CTE programs at sub-baccalaureate institutions as an equal postsecondary option to four-year institutions and to include the students of those institutions equally in consideration of financial aid and data collection.

  • Department Rewards AP, CTE Left Out

    The U.S. Department of Education announced $28 million in grants have been awarded to 42 states to cover the costs of Advanced Placement (AP) exams for low-income students.

  • Pennsylvania ESEA Waiver Includes CTE

    On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Education approved Pennsylvania’s application to waive key requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), currently known as No Child Left Behind. Pennsylvania’s waiver was the 41st approved since the department began issuing waiver in 2011.

  • President Announces Higher Ed Plan

    In a press release this morning, President Barack Obama announced his plan to improve postsecondary education access and affordability. Over the past few years, the President has continually professed his support for community colleges and ensuring access to higher education for low-income students, and this new proposal looks to build on those efforts through the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.

  • Maine ESEA Waiver Approved

    The U.S. Department of Education approved Maine's application for flexibility from key requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act in exchange for a state developed plan to prepare all students for college and career, focus aid on the neediest students and support effective teachers and leadership.

  • ACTE Submits Higher Ed Act Recommendations

    In response to the House Committee on Education and the Workforce's request for Higher Education Act recommendations, ACTE surveyed its membership and submitted a letter of recommendation to Chairman Kline (R-MN) and Ranking Member Miller (D-CA).
