This week, the Senate Appropriations Committee will take up the Fiscal Year (FY)
2014 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education appropriations bill, which
will include funding for Perkins! Federal support for CTE is far below what is
necessary to meet the needs of local CTE programs and the students they
serve. Since 2010, Perkins funding has been reduced by over $100 million,
with the threat of further cuts through sequestration for the 2013-14 school
year. The erosion of Perkins has negatively impacted high schools, CTE centers,
community and technical colleges, employers and millions of CTE students

ACTE, along with various other organizations, recently sent
out a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voicing support for the Obama Administration’s new ConnectED initiative.
They expressed concern about the 20 percent of students who graduate late or
drop out entirely and the need to decrease that number in order to keep America
competitive in the global marketplace. The plans would help to expand the
school systems current internet capabilities, bringing student learning into
the digital age.
