  • President Tours Tech High School in Texas

    Yesterday, President Obama travelled to Austin, Texas for the first stop on a series of Middle Class Jobs and Opportunity Tours. The president will use these trips to highlight some of the initiatives he put forward in his 2013 State of the Union speech. He spent his time in Austin visiting Manor New Tech High School; a STEM focused high school founded in 2007.

  • CTE Students Better Prepared for Teen Employment

    Recently the Commonwealth Corporation and the Drexel University Center for Labor Markets and Policy joined forces to try and understand the decline in teen employment in Signaling Success: Boosting Teen Employment Prospects. They found that part of the reason for this decline can be attributed to teens' poor interviewing skills and workplace behaviors--with the exception of CTE students.

  • CTE Helps Nation Near 90 Percent Graduation Rate

    The latest annual Building a Grad Nation report finds that, for the first time, the United States is on track to a 90 percent high school graduation rate by the class of 2020.

  • College and Work Ready Report Addresses Literacy and Math Skills Needs

    An event hosted by the National Center for Education and the Economy focused on the release of the organization's new report, "What Does It Really Mean to Be College and Work Ready? The Mathematics and English Literacy Required of First Year Community College Students." A series of six panels discussed the key findings of the report and implications for the education system.

  • CTE Gets Attention During ESEA Accountability Hearing

    With the impending reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the House Committee on Education and the Workforce held a hearing focused on what the proper federal role should be in holding schools accountable for student outcomes.

  • CTE Credential Holders Out-earn Their Peers

    Last fall I reported to you on associate degree holders in CTE fields out-earning bachelor's degree recipients in Virginia. I've recently learned that Tennessee and Texas have also studied the relative benefits of various credentials and career fields for their postsecondary students, with similar findings.
