  • Administration's Budget Proposal Restores Sequester Cut to CTE Funding but Still Falls Short of Need

    Earlier today, the Obama Administration released its budget proposal for FY 2014. In the budget proposal, the Administration suggests funding Perkins at 1.1 billion, equal to FY 2012 levels, before sequestration.

    Recently, both the House and Senate approved their respective budget resolutions for Fiscal Year (FY) 2014. These resolutions set the overall discretionary spending caps for the coming fiscal year and establish the total amount of funding that will be available for programs like Perkins.

  • Research Findings Support Programs of Study

    NRCCTE researchers at FHI 360 recently completed a longitudinal study on Programs of Study (POS)-type initiatives developed prior to the 2006 Perkins IV legislation, and their findings support the link between POS and positive student outcomes.

  • Determining High-quality Career Pathways

    Career pathways are a key aspect of the college and career readiness conversation, and a number of stakeholders and organizations are taking part in the dialogue. One such organization is the Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP) and its Alliance for Quality Career Pathways, a two-year initiative to identify criteria and measurement for high-quality career pathway systems. A recent publication sets out the Alliance's definition of career pathways and its plan to develop a framework for evaluating career pathways.

  • Alternatively Certified Teachers Effective, But Need Feedback

    With debate ongoing as to the effectiveness of CTE teachers who come to teaching from practicing their area of expertise in business and industry, also known as alternative certification, a study on the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) induction model for alternatively certified teachers recently released by the National Research Center for Career and Technical Education (NRCCTE) intends to shed light on the issue.
