  • ACTE Makes Impact on House ESEA Overhaul

    The House of Representatives finished debate and held a final vote on the Student Success Act (HR 5). The bill is the latest attempt to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The overhaul striped several key provisions from the current law, and made some positive changes that may impact CTE.

  • Benishek CTE Amendment Adopted on Bipartisan Vote

    Earlier today, Rep. Dan Benishek (R-MI) introduced a CTE amendment to the Student Success Act (H.R. 5), the House bill to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The amendment encourages states to include information on student achievement of career and technical proficiencies on their state and school report cards. Thanks to the efforts of advocates around the country that have worked to show Congress the importance of CTE student achievement, it was adopted on a bipartisan basis!

  • Take Action: House Voting On Career Readiness Measure

    Today the House of Representatives will be voting on amendments to the Student Success Act reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Rep. Dan Benishek (R-MI), in conjunction with ACTE, is introducing an amendment requesting schools report on the career readiness of its students.   • Sen. Merkley Pens Middle School Career Exploration Bill

    Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) introduced the Building Understanding, Investment, Learning and Direction Career and Technical Education (BUILD CTE) Act of 2013 to establish a pilot, competitive grant program to help states establish, re-establish or scale up career exploration programs in middle schools.

  • Sen. Marco Rubio Encourages CTE as Part of Higher Ed Solution

    Speaking on the Senate floor yesterday during a debate on fixing the student loan interest rate, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) lauded the merits of career and technical education as a key part of any "fix" to the higher education system.

  • ACTE Signs on to Letter Showing Support for ConnectED

    ACTE, along with various other organizations, recently sent out a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voicing  support for the Obama  Administration’s new ConnectED initiative. They expressed concern about the 20 percent of students who graduate late or drop out entirely and the need to decrease that number in order to keep America competitive in the global marketplace. The plans would help to expand the school systems current internet capabilities, bringing student learning into the digital age.

  • Alabama and New Hampshire ESEA Flexibility Waivers Approved

    Over the past week, the Department of Education has approved flexibility waivers for key requirements in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) for Alabama and New Hampshire. Their approval brings the total number of approved flexibility waivers to 39 states and the District of Columbia.
