  • ED Seeks Input on College Ratings System

    The U.S. Department of Education continues to seek input on its proposed college ratings system. The ratings system could take into account tuition costs, enrollment of low-income students, graduation rates, job placements rates, graduate earnings, and other factors in determining a final rating for an institution, which in turn could affect an institution's eligibility for federal student aid.

  • BLS Releases Employment Projections Through 2022

    The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has released has released the 2014-2015 Occupational Outlook Handbook as well as its employment projections for 2012-2022.

  • CTE Funding Spotlight: EPA Workforce Development and Job Training Grant

    The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the federal agency that oversees the development and enforcement of environmental standards and regulations, is currently soliciting proposals for funding of local or regional programs that deliver environmental workforce development and job training opportunities for unemployed and under-employed individuals. This competitive grant specifically focuses on training for careers in hazardous waste remediation, environmental health and safety, and wastewater management.

  • College and Career Readiness for Students With Disabilities, GED Test-takers

    While the national dialogue on college and career readiness tends to focus on the needs of the general high school student population, there are other populations who are also impacted by the college and career readiness discussion, including students with disabilities and youth and adults taking the GED test.

  • Advocate on Social Media to Restore Perkins Funding

    Following the passage of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013, which will restore most of the sequestration cuts for Fiscal Year (FY) 2014, Congress has now turned its attention to creating an appropriations bill that will set funding levels for individual programs like Perkins. The House and Senate Labor, Health and Human Services and Education appropriations subcommittees, which have jurisdiction over funding for education and workforce development programs, will determine which individual programs get funding restored within the overall total increase available.

  • ACTE and NASDCTEc Urge Appropriations Committees to Restore Perkins Funding

    As we reported last week, Congress approved a budget agreement, known as the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013, that will restore most of the sequestration cuts for Fiscal Year (FY) 2014. Congress must now begin the task of setting funding levels for individual programs like Perkins before the current funding bill expires on January 15.
