  • Department of Education Releases Perkins State Table for 2014

    Recently, the U.S. Department of Education released a new state-by-state table that shows Perkins funding in Fiscal Year (FY) 2014. The table shows state allocations beginning in FY 2012 and reflects the FY 2013 sequester cut, as well as the recent increase in Perkins funding for the current fiscal year. The FY 2014 omnibus appropriations bill, which was recently signed into law by President Obama, included a $53 million increase for Perkins! The funding boost for Perkins will restore over 90 percent of the cut to Perkins state grants that occurred in 2013 as a result of sequestration.

  • House Committee Discusses Postsecondary Opportunities

    The House Committee on Education and the Workforce's Subcommittee on Higher Education and the Workforce held a hearing on January 28 titled "Keeping College Within Reach: Sharing Best Practices for Serving Low Income and First Generation Students".

  • Obama Promotes Job Training Agenda Following State of the Union

    Following the State of the Union address, President Obama embarked on a busy week of post-speech events that focused on many of the education and training issues he outlined on Tuesday night. As we previously reported, the president pledged to make this a “year of action” that will include a number of initiatives his Administration will undertake without the need for congressional approval.

  • 2014 NPS Update: Policymakers to Talk CTE at Capitol Hill Session

    ACTE is excited to announce that the 2014 National Policy Seminar will, for the second year in a row, feature programing on Capitol Hill! The stately Congressional Auditorium in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center (CVC) will once again play host to our Offsite General Session on Tuesday, March 4.

  • Data Driven: CTE Students Develop Problem-solving, Related Skills

    CTE students, through hands-on, project-based learning, not only acquire technical and academic skills but also gain much-needed skills in problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork, communications and other skills vital to the workplace. Students acquire these competencies through CTE courses, work-based learning experiences, career and technical student organization competitions and participation in school-based businesses.

  • CEDS 4.0 Released With New CTE-Related Data Elements

    Today the National Center for Education Statistics released the Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) 4.0. CEDS is a national collaborative effort to develop voluntary, common data standards for a key set of data elements across the education and workforce pipeline, including data elements with relevance for CTE, adult education and the workforce.

  • Ohio, Virginia Senators Launch Senate CTE Caucus

    In conjunction with the start of CTE Month, ACTE worked with U.S. Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Rob Portman (R-OH) to form the Senate Career and Technical Education Caucus. As co-chairs, the Senators will use the bipartisan Caucus to bring attention in the Senate to improving and strengthening access to high-quality, rigorous CTE to ensure a well-educated and highly skilled workforce.

  • Workforce Data Quality Update: New Report and Grants

    Recently, the Workforce Data Quality Campaign (WDQC), a national initiative that advocates for inclusive, aligned and market-relevant data systems used for advancing the nation's skilled workforce, released an initial report outlining the campaign's five-point agenda for reform. ACTE was a founding partner of WDQC and is actively involved in pursuing the campaign's agenda.
