
The Madison County Schools Business & Commerce Center celebrated CTE Week in a number of ways:
- The Marketing Management Technology program decorated each of its three display windows depicting six programs and an exciting occupation that could be obtained with each program.
- The school sent several PSA’s to local radio stations, television stations and newspapers.
- The director of the school was interviewed on a local radio program.
- Twelve guest speakers from the community visited classrooms and discussed such topics as “what makes a good manager,” “what makes a good employee,” “what occupations are in demand in the community that your program helps you with a head start?”
- Business and Industry representatives from the community were invited to the annual Business and Industry luncheon.
- A “Club Day” was a designated for the student organization officers to wear their organization uniforms. A “Dress for Success Day” was also designated for students to wear clothing that imitated business attire for their particular program.
- Students handed out flyers throughout the community with information concerning the Center, the programs offered there and information about CTE Week.

Career and Technical Education Week was celebrated at Mount Pleasant High School with several different activities:
- The Building Maintenance students set up displays depicting seventeen career and technical education specializations in four area banks.
- Businesses employing CTE students through work-based learning programs were recognized with personalized travel mugs and certificates of appreciation.
- An Open House was held during the week in the Career and Technical Education building. Invited guests included the members of the school board, the career and technical education advisory board, and Mount Pleasant Independent School District administrators. The newly remodeled facility was toured by guests with the Cosmetology students serving as tour guides. The Family and Consumer Sciences class prepared all the food that was served.
- Different representatives spoke to local civic groups about their youth organizations, departmental course offerings, and area, state and national competitions.
- Students and Teachers in the CTE program rotated through elective classes at Mount Pleasant Junior High to share information with 7th and 8th grade students about program offerings to aid in their selection of electives for their four year plan.
- The SkillsUSA-VICA officers in Cosmetology spoke about the week’s activities in Spanish on radio station KMP. Each day, special spot announcements were made over local radio stations advertising Career and Technical Education Week.
At Orange County High School, the CTE Department scheduled an event for each day:
- Monday an announcement was made over the high school’s PA system about CTE Week.
- Tuesday each teacher received a multicolor brochure featuring CTE programs and a “Career Tech” lollipop.
- Wednesday members of the CTE Department went to the county middle school and sponsored an Electives Fair. Five program areas were represented as well as fine arts and JROTC.
- Thursday a CTE Week related article appeared in the school division newsletter, “The Orange Appeal.”
- Friday they handed out “Little Debbie” cake hearts with a note that read “Happy Valentine’s Day from the CTE Department! We hope your heart stays in education! CTE Week 2003 Working on your Future!”
At Walker High School, a number of activities took place during CTE Week:
- In honor of the week the career and technical clubs gave a career and technical education fact each day over the P.A System.
- Each student was given a small candy bar with the career tech logo on it. The candy was put into the teacher’s boxes.
- The career and technical clubs and the cheerleaders sponsored “School Pride Day.” Each student who wore their school colors to school was dismissed at least five minutes early for break.
- The Future Business Leaders of America Club (FBLA) sponsored a “Dress for Success Day.” All students who wore appropriate business attire to school on a specified day were to see a career and technical education teacher, and receive a raffle ticket. The students then became eligible to win a $25 cash prize in the “Dress for Success” giveaway!

The Board of County Commissioners proclaimed the week of February 9-15, 2003 as Career and Technology Week in Fredrick County. The Proclamation was issued to recognize that career and technical education provides Americans with a school-to-careers connection and is the backbone of a strong, well-educated workforce, which fosters productivity in business and industry and contributes to America’s leadership in the international marketplace.
