2007 ACTE and the National Partnership Team Up in Las Vegas

The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and the National Partnership for Careers in Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security have teamed up to host the National Partnership’s eighth annual conference in Las Vegas.

The National Partnership’s conference will be held December 11-12, followed by the full ACTE Annual Convention December 13-15. Both events will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The National Partnership serves as the lead organization for the Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security Career Cluster. The conference offers more than 30 sessions in these career areas, with three plenary sessions featuring national speakers. Sessions focus on 6 themes:

  1. Getting Started: Issues for Developing and Improving Career Programs. There are four major types of career programs, with multiple variations in each. Community needs and state requirements increase the variations that have to be considered.
  2. The Role of Colleges, College Programs, and Other Postsecondary Options and Programs. The postsecondary relationship to secondary school career programs is often essential in creating academic rigor and obtaining community and parent support.
  3. Integrated Curriculum and Standards. This theme focuses on academic courses integrated with the career areas, such as English, the sciences and social studies.
  4. Law and Law Enforcement Career Programs. This theme area will showcase models from around the country and include program design as well as curriculum.
  5. Corrections, Security, and Fire and Emergency Services Career Programs. Interest in these career areas has been growing. Prison populations and the number of prisons continue to increase; security needs continue to grow due to 9/11 related concerns in this increasingly technology-based field. Fire and emergency services have become more critical to the homeland security strategies both nationally and locally.
  6. Special Programs. These programs are often outside the regular for-credit high school courses, or they are integrated with regular courses. Special programs (e.g., Explorers, Youth Courts) make the law and public safety program unique and help create the sense of a learning community and an environment of mutual support.

To register for the National Partnership’s conference and/or the ACTE Annual Convention, please register online or call 800-826-9972. Individuals who choose to attend both meetings will receive a discounted registration rate.
