This
year’s Best Practices Conference featured exciting General Session
speakers who challenged you to think differently, show you how to
approach and tackle your challenges and inspire you to succeed.
Thursday, September 30, 2010
Thursday’s General Session speaker was Martin Scaglione,
president of ACT's Workforce Division. Scaglione, whose primary
responsibilities include oversight of development, operations, marketing
and sales initiatives for ACT’s workforce-related programs and
services, will discuss and share his insights on the national skill
crisis, an issue all career and technical educators are working to
solve.
Prior to joining ACT, Scaglione worked for HON industries
leading corporate strategy, sales, distribution and marketing. While at
Bosch-Siemens Household, he held the position of North American
managing director, executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Martin started his career with Maytag, where he worked for nearly 20
years. His last role there was vice president, sales, and, before that,
vice president, marketing. Martin is a graduate of Drake University,
graduating with degrees in economics and marketing.
Friday, October 1, 2010
Friday’s lunch speaker was Robin Crow,
an accomplished recording artist and entrepreneur, who lectures widely
on the implications of global issues and their effects on business
sustainability. Crow’s talk, “Evolve or Die,” will illustrate not only
the importance of addressing the challenges you face, but also how to
use those challenges to bring about necessary change.
Crow doesn’t
just talk business; he lives it. His company, Dark Horse Recording, a
four-studio complex and resort, has set the gold standard for customer
service and excellence in the recording industry. It is home to Faith
Hill, Ashley Judd, Neil Diamond, Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw, Michael W.
Smith, Jewel, Alison Krauss and many others.
Attendees of the 2010 ACTE/NCLA Best Practices
Conference had the opportunity to tour the Penta Career Center,
which was founded in 1965 as Penta County Joint Vocational School and
was the first multi-county joint vocational school in Ohio, and has been
and is considered a leader in CTE in Ohio since its inception. A new
era began for Penta in 2008, when it opened a new, 522,000 square-foot
school in Perrysburg Township. The new Penta is an expanded facility
not only in size, but, more importantly, in terms of curriculum and
scope of services. It provides innovative CTE programs, expanded
academic courses and enhancements to traditional programs. Penta serves
16 member school districts in five counties, and serves adults in the
surrounding communities through its Adult and Continuing Education
Division.
