ACTE Strategic Priorities
 
Core Purpose

To provide leadership in developing an educated, prepared, adaptable and competitive workforce

Core Values

Advocacy
ACTE believes that the field of career and technical education needs a strong voice at the local, state and national levels to support its importance to learners and to promote public awareness of that value to a competitive economy.

Diversity
ACTE seeks and values diversity among its members and the students its members serve.

Lifelong Learning
ACTE embraces the concept of lifelong learning and recognizes its importance to remaining competitive in a constantly changing environment.

Collaboration
ACTE understands that it cannot accomplish its purpose without the strong support and partnership of other individuals and groups who share its vision.

Accountability
ACTE supports the concept of accountability and encourages members and their organizations to develop means to demonstrate their active contributions to the nation’s learners.

Service
ACTE encourages the individual commitment of its members to the organization and the profession of Career and Technical Education.

Strategic Priorities

Priority: By June 2009, ACTE will be recognized as a leader in education reform.

Outcomes:

  • ACTE recommendations for secondary and postsecondary education reform are incorporated into federal and state reform initiatives.  ACTE is an active member in national coalitions and alliances focused on education issues.
  • The tools and resources will be available for career and technical education professionals to use in implementing reform initiatives.
  • ACTE will have a central location for information and resources related to education reform that is utilized by educators, business and industry professionals and policymakers.
  • ACTE relationships with postsecondary education and workforce development organizations will increase.

Priority: By June 2008, ACTE will have in place efficient and effective policies, practices and procedures and an organization structure that will enable continuous member service and value.

Outcomes:

  • ACTE will utilize technology to its fullest capacity and has available a manual documenting the process for every function performed in carrying out services and activities.
  • At least 20% of membership application and renewal activity and 50% of registration or purchasing activity will be done electronically with minimal staff intervention.
  • There will be a plan in place for the state associations and ACTE to operate with one membership database.
  • ACTE staff functions and expertise will be aligned with ACTE strategic priorities and a concise system for evaluation and recognition will be in place.
  • ACTE committees will represent the issues important to the career and technical education profession.  Committees will be comprised of members with expertise and interest in the objectives of the committee.

Priority: By June 2008, ACTE will have in place programs and services to ensure long-term financial stability.

Outcomes:

  • There is a fully implemented investment strategy in place with annual contributions to both short- and long-term investments.
  • Membership in ACTE will increase by 5% in the individual category and 10% in the educational institution and national affiliate organization categories.*
  • New or expanded sources of revenue (beyond membership and convention) will represent at least 33% of the ACTE annual budget.*
  • Attendance at the Annual Convention will increase by 10%.

Priority: By June 2010, career and technical education and CTE educators will be positively recognized and valued by the general public.

Outcomes:  

  • The number of career and technical education programs available at the secondary level will increase by 10%.
  • The number of students in CTE teacher education majors will increase by 10%.
  • The number of positive CTE articles in the media will increase by 25%.

Prioriy: By June 2010, the ACTE brand will be integrated into all organizational activities and recognized by the CTE profession and external stakeholders.

Outcomes:

  • All ACTE communication products will have a consistent design and image that is recognized by members, prospective members, external stakeholders and the general public.
  • The Communities of Practice will encompass current and emerging populations and participation will increase by 50%.
  • The achievement of the strategic priorities will position ACTE as a leader in the education profession.

Priority: By June 2010, ACTE will have in place a comprehensive leadership development program to ensure a diversified cadre of volunteers aligned with the brand and strategic direction of ACTE.

Outcomes: 

  • ACTE will have a large leadership cadre at both the national and state level knowledgeable in both association practices and emerging issues in career and technical education.
  • There will be at least three (3) nominations for every Board and officer position.   
  • The majority of state associations will have leaders that have participated in the ACTE leadership development program.
  • The ACTE leadership team will include individuals representing diversity such as age, race, gender, disciplines and geography.
  • All committee member positions will be filled and by qualified individuals.

Priority: By June 2008, ACTE will have in place strategies for integrating the organizational structure, programs and communications with the career clusters movement.

Outcomes:  

  • ACTE membership and programming will be organized around career clusters
  • ACTE will be recognized as a primary resource for information on career cluster initiatives across the country.
