Future Horizons Committee – FY08 Appointment and Objectives

MEMBERS: Members appointed by the ACTE President

1. MISSION

To monitor the external and internal environment and identify emerging trends that will potentially impact the career and technical education and the Association.

2. AUTHORITY

This is a committee appointed under procedures adopted pursuant to Article 8.1 of the Bylaws.

3. COMPOSITION, SELECTION & TERM

3.1 The Committee shall be composed of six to eight members representing a cross section of the ACTE membership, plus a Chair.

3.2 The term of office is the association’s operating year. Members serve for a two-year period and may serve up to two terms. The Chair serves for one year.

3.3 The ACTE President appoints the Chair and members, with the approval of the Board of Directors.

3.4 Members of this Committee should have an interest and experience in strategic thinking and environmental scanning.

4. OBJECTIVES

4.1 Monitor a wide variety of publications, web sites, cable, and radio stations for information on technology, regulations, demographics, social issues, and business events.

4.2 Solicit input from members and external stakeholders on events and observations.

4.3 Report to the Board of Directors emerging trends and recommendations for how the Association can address the key shifts and changes in the environment.

4.4 Communicate to State Association leadership emerging trends and provide guidance on how they can utilize the information.

4.5 Communicate to Members emerging trends.
