1. MISSION
To provide leadership in embracing cultural differences in education and help educators become more aware and sensitive to the cultural differences among their students, colleagues and community.
2. AUTHORITY
2.1 This is a committee of the Board of Directors appointed under procedures adopted pursuant to Article VIII.1 of the Bylaws.
3. COMPOSITION, SELECTION & TERM
3.1 The Committee shall consist of one representative from each ACTE Division and Region.
3.2 The term of office is the Association’s operating year. Members serve for a two-year period and may serve up to two terms.
3.3 The Committee elects its Chair and Vice-Chair with approval of the Board of Directors. The Chair and Vice-Chair serve for one one-year terms.
3.4 The Division and Region Vice Presidents appoint their committee representative.
4. OBJECTIVES
4.1 The purpose of the Cultural Awareness Committee is to provide leadership in embracing cultural differences in education and help educators become more aware and sensitive to the cultural differences among their students, colleagues and community.
4.2 Specific objectives for this year are:
a. Identify information, resources and tools to enhance cultural sensitivity and assist ACTE members in addressing the issues.
b. Submit recommendations to the Board of Directors as to the advocacy role ACTE should assume relevant to cultural awareness and diversity.
c. Provide ideas and recommendations regarding specific programs and activities ACTE should consider to enhance cultural sensitivity.
