Dear ACTE Health Science Technology Education Division New Member:
Welcome to the Health Science Technology Education (HSTE) Division. You will find that the HSTE Division is composed of teachers, teacher educators, administrators both local and state, and other professionals interested in the teaching of our youth and adults, career and technical education, and the health care of our nation. The networking capabilities are phenomenal. The Division offers professional development sessions at the ACTE Annual Convention and also collaborates with other health-related entities, to sponsor a Health Science Technology Research and Curriculum Conference every two years. There are many opportunities to apply your leadership skills both in committee work and in organization/presentation at the conferences. Learn how to develop your legislative skills and become active in the legislative process by attending the National Policy Seminar each year. Take a few moments to review all the exciting things going on in the HSTE Division.
HSTE Awards
Each year, awards are given in five categories.
This award is to recognize individuals or organizations outside the field of career and technical education for the highest meritorious contribution to the improvement, promotion, and progress of HSTE.
This award is to recognize new HSTE teachers who are providing outstanding career and technical education programs for youth and/or adults in one of the health fields. Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs that are serving to improve and promote career and technical education.
This award is to recognize educators who have made the highest meritorious contribution to the improvement, promotion, development, and progress of health science technology education.
This award is to recognize those career and technical educators, other than full-time classroom/laboratory teachers, who have recently provided or are currently providing significant contributions to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of health science technology education.
This award is to recognize teachers who are providing outstanding career and technical education programs for youth and/or adults in one of the health fields. Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs, which are serving to improve and promote career and technical education.

Division Scholarships
The HSTE Division gives the HSTE and the Catherine B. Junge scholarships each year. The applicants for the Catherine B. Junge scholarship must be members of HOSA. All applicants must be enrolled in a secondary, postsecondary or college/university HSTE program. The applicants may be a high school senior with proof of acceptance into further education for a health career, or an enrolled student in a postsecondary (community/technical/junior college) or university/collegiate HSTE program.
Criteria: a) The transcript of the applicant must accompany the application; b) A list of activities, e.g., offices held, awards and honors, and student organization involvement (if applicable) must be submitted; the Catherine B. Junge scholarship requires that the applicant be a member and a local, regional, state or national officer of HOSA; c) The applicant must describe community service, volunteer experience, church related activities, etc.; and d) Submit a 350—750 word essay describing contributions that they expect to make to the health profession and why they should be selected as the recipient of the scholarship. Additional requirement: Three (3) references from a) a teacher, adviser, principal or director of the HSTE program; b) an employer; and c) any other source other than a relative. The references should document applicant’s scholarship, leadership abilities, interpersonal skills, integrity and potential in the health profession.

Division Committees
This committee is to select recipients for the various HSTE and ACTE awards.
This committee is to identify issues affecting HSTE programs; prepare and promote legislation favorable to HSTE; and research and prepare resolutions representing HSTE viewpoints.
This committee is to write and secure articles concerning HSTE and edit and oversee the publications of documents for the HSTE Division.
This committee is to work with the various states, regions and affiliate organizations in recruiting for membership and candidates for the various positions in HSTE.
This committee is to review, edit and recommend changes in the operating policies and the policy handbook.
This committee is to develop and initiate ways to improve the professional development of HSTE members. The members will work with ACTE convention committee in planning the program.
This committee is to put forward the names of two candidates as the nominees for the office of HSTE vice president, after having interviewed all candidates nominated. Biographical data and ballots are to be mailed to the membership for voting.
This committee is to review the audit of the accounts of the division for the fiscal year and reports its findings to the annual business meeting.
This committee is to deal with any special projects that may affect the division.
