The ACTE Convention and Career Tech Expo, “Connecting Education and Careers” is just around the corner, December 13-15, 2007 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The Guidance and Career Development Opening Session of the ACTE Convention features an exciting panel of state guidance leaders from around the country. In addition to the Opening Session there will be many exceptions sessions addressing the topics that are pertinent to Career Development. Join us in Las Vegas for the Guidance and Career Development Business Meeting on Thursday, December 13, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. Since we changed our name from the Guidance Division to the Guidance and Career Development Division of ACTE we have been able to include more people in our group. The objective of this first-of-a-kind business meeting will be to organize the division into special interest groups. The tentative groups will be:
-
Counselors
-
Career Development Specialists
(facilitators, job coaches, work-based learning, school-to-work, career pathway coordinators, tech prep coordinators)
-
State Guidance Leadership
-
Research and Counselor Training Programs.
FYI, It is group #2 that is catching the most interest and gaining the strongest momentum.
Sequoia trees are tall, strong, and stately. But, they grow in groves because, underground, their roots are connected. They gain strength from each other. They depend on each other. We are like sequoia trees. We are all unique guidance and career development professionals, but we need each other.
The Guidance and Career Development Division has an online discussion group, the Community of Practice. Please join us for a discussion on a variety of issues. For more information contact Juli Gilyard.
The Guidance and Career Development Division is member driven. ACTE provides the premier venue for professional development at the annual convention. ACTE also is the leader in advocacy and public policy.
The Guidance and Career Development Division is recognized as a leader in counseling and career education research and best practice, but, we need you! Many people enjoy the services of ACTE/Guidance but forget that, as a member driven organization, we depend on the support from our members.
If you are not a member of ACTE, join now! When you join, you must select a division, select Guidance and Career Development. If you are already a member of ACTE and have joined another division, but frequently attend guidance sessions, consider adding Guidance as a second division. If you are already an ACTE Guidance and Career Development member we thank you very much and encourage you to bring your colleagues along too.
Please share suggestions and comments with Judy Whitaker, ACTE Vice President for Guidance and Career.
